Frequently Asked Questions

Spectrophotometry

Question

Why don't the WPA spectrophotometers have a lid to block out ambient light?

Answer

They don't have a lid becuase of the advanced and novel design of the instrument optics. One of the advantages of post sample monochromation is that the optics system is very directional. This means that the sample chamber is not sensitive to stray light as such light comes from directions other than the main optical axis through the sample, so get rejected by the system. This make sample insertion and testing very simple.

Biochrom has shown that even putting a 100W lamp directly over the sample area during a scan makes no measurable difference to the readings.
